My intent with this community is to share ideas and learn with all the participants how to make Online Collaboration Training as effective as possible.

People with basic computer skills going online and learning how to get things done in virtual collaboration platforms.

Maybe everybody can share in which context they want to take advantage of the knowledge and learnings shared and developed in this community?

My case in Point is my workplace. It’s a rather small university, located in Bolivia. Though there is a “systems” computer sciences career offering in the university, people here (administrative and teachers) use computers as little as possible, and don’t have a clue about online collaboration. The challenge is then to make their work more efficient and more beneficial for the organization.

I launched a Google Site as soon as it was available, and there are now two projects that are trying to use it.

I am currently developing a very short training program to train people on how to make the most out of it.

WOW! Sounds like you’re doing some innovative projects at your University. I am at a fairly large University in North Carolina (United States). UNC-CH

Online Collaboration is a hard nut to crack. While we have incredible access to pretty much everything, faculty are still hesitant to adopt online collaboration. We will set up group sites within Blackboard (our learning management system), some faculty/staff have blogs that other faculty/staff comment on, and most of us are on facebook and have formed groups for each academic unit on campus.

I ‘d love to see the program you develop to help faculty adopt online collabortaion.

Is your focus on collaborating on specific projects or in specific adademic units or across the campus as a whole?

    Vahid,

I see we have similar aspirations. I would love to collaborate.

I am a recruiter for and student at Athabasca University. We are a distance university out of Canada. I am interested to see where this community goes, not only regarding collaborations among colleagues but also regarding collaborations among students. To date I have completed two online/distance courses and will certainly be completing others.

I am a learning and innovation consultant, who interestingly enough did a guest speaker spot back in 2004 on an Athabasca MBA residential at Cranfield.

My current project is designing a course on “Online Collaboration” which will be a one day course aimed at encouraging people to use the tools that are available to do real work together, wherever they are located. I plan to use freely available tools to practically experience the three aspects: IM, Conferencing and document sharing. The course will initially be delivered in the UK as “face to face” delivery, the course materials will be openly available for others to use. I am interested in sharing experiences and knowledge.
